Guided. Gathered. Graced. An Introduction to the Book of Numbers | Psalm 23

 • Ben Bailie • Series: Numbers

This Sunday, we begin our new series on the book of Numbers, which will focus on: Keeping God at the Center of Your Life. Since Numbers is an unfamiliar book to many, we will introduce it with a familiar passage: Psalm 23. In our introductory sermon, “Guided, Gathered, and Graced,” we invite you into the grand wilderness narrative of Numbers as a living outworking of Psalm 23 on a national scale. We’ll see how the Lord faithfully guides His people through every trial (the “cloud by day and fire by night”), how He gathers us around His dwelling‐place in covenant community, and how He graces us with His blessing and peace in the Aaronic benediction (Numbers 6:24–26). Tomorrow, we’ll explore three life-shaping truths that will help you center every moment on God’s presence: Guided: The Lord is our Shepherd who leads us through the wilderness. Gathered: The Lord is our Companion as we camp in the wilderness. Graced: The Lord is our Host who blesses us in the wilderness. Whether you feel lost, overwhelmed, or simply in need of fresh perspective, join us as we learn to keep the Good Shepherd at the very center of our lives—and discover afresh what it means to be guided, gathered, and graced by Him. Discussion Questions for Adults ✳️ Understanding the Text 1. Were you surprised that Psalm 23 could be used as a framework to outline Numbers? 2. What strikes you about the way God organizes Israel’s camp around His presence? ✳️ Theological Reflection 3. Numbers teaches us how to live with a holy God at the center. What does that practically mean for us? 4. What happens in your life when God is no longer at the center—but on the margins? ✳️ Personal Application 5. What “wildernesses” are you walking through right now—spiritually, emotionally, or relationally? 6. What would it look like to reorient your life (or your family/work schedule) around God’s presence? 7. Are there areas where you’re tempted to grumble, resist, or drift from obedience? Discussion Questions for Kids 1. If God is like a Shepherd leading His sheep, what fun “green pastures” (good places or things) would you like Him to show you this week? 2. Imagine you’re camping in the desert—draw or describe a camp where God’s cloud (by day) and fire (by night) are right above your tent. 3. Think of a happy party where someone special invites you and feeds you. How is God like the host who “graces” you with His love and blessings? 4. The Israelites ate manna every morning. What everyday things does God give you (food, family, friends) that you can thank Him for? 5. Who helps you follow God, like Moses helped the people in the desert? Why is it important to have helpers on your adventure with God?
